Description
Advanced computing areas such as distributed computing, the internet of things, and artificial intelligence are becoming ubiquitous topics in our daily lives. However, they are typically not being taught in K-12 classrooms due to their traditional complexity. To address this, we introduce a collection of tools and a full year-long high school curriculum called CS Frontiers (CSF) which is able to introduce these subjects at a high level without requiring any prior programming experience. Because of this, our curriculum can, and has been used as a drop-in model for a full-fledged year-long CS course which can simultaneously satisfy the requirement of a mandated CS class offering, as well as provide students with highly-engaging projects in real-world areas of the frontiers of computing. Our tools and curriculum are free and open source, with optional paid PD and support for technical issues and/or assistance with personalizing content to specific students’ interests.
