VITAL Educator Mentor

APPLICATIONS CLOSED

The VITAL Prize Challenge is supported by a partnership between the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Schmidt Futures, and the Walton Family Foundation. Learn more about the partnership here

We are seeking educators with a strong interest in improving educational technology products to support learner variability and the needs of historically and systematically marginalized learners. We value educators’ context and pedagogical expertise, and seek educators who will bring background in learning design and the use of educational technology to a participatory design process with researchers and product developers.

Prior to being partnered with research and development teams, educators can expect up to 5 synchronous hours of training and up to 10 hours of asynchronous training mid-June 2023. After being paired with teams, time commitments will vary based on the mutually agreed upon plans. Roughly speaking, educators can expect approximately 1-3 hours of training and collaborating per week from mid-August to mid-October 2023, and then again from December 2023 through January 2024 if their team is selected for the final round. This opportunity pays between $15,000 and $25,000, depending on whether your team is selected to proceed to the final round of the challenge.

This application should take you no longer than 30 minutes to complete. Applications are closed. Review of completed applications will begin May 15, and we will begin to notify educators of their acceptance starting May 31. Programming will begin June 20.
